Pick your team

At Piranha we offer you the possibility to get to know the sport or play at your own level. We currently have one competition team, our gents 1, but we hope to have enough people to fill a ladies team and an additional gents team again soon. Gents 1 plays at the highest regional level (1e klasse district). This is a nice level for slightly more experienced players.

For the ladies and the less experienced gents, we have a mixed tournament team. This team doesn’t play in a competition, but attends tournaments like the NSWKs all across the Netherlands. The level of this team is very accessible, also for people who are just starting to play waterpolo. It's also possible to just join practices.

More than just a sport

Activities
Outside the pool

Besides the practices and matches we also organize many activities. For example, we go to tournaments, organize drinks and other activities both in and outside of the pool! This offers a waterpolo player at Piranha not only the possibility to play at your own level but also the fun atmosphere you would expect from a student association.

Would you like to join a practice or do you have any other questions? Please do not hesitate to contact the waterpolo committee. We hope to see you playing with us soon!

Tournaments and Competition

Matches
& Rules

Our competition team plays both home as well as away matches during the match season, which takes starts in early September and lasts until about the end of April or beginning of May. Most matches take place on a Saturday evening with the occasional game on Sunday afternoon. Whenever we play at home, usually people will come watch and we make nice evening out of it together. We’ll usually have dinner together and go for a well-earned drink afterwards.

The matches are usually played with around 10 people: 6 players, 1 goalie and 3 substitutes. A game always consists of 4 periods that, depending on the level, take 5 to 6 minutes of actual play time. During these matches we are supported by our professional coach who will give the necessary directions and tips during the game. All our home matches take place in the swimming pool in Enschede called Het Diekman.

Practices

Both the competition and the tournament team have two practices a week. During the indoor season, which lasts from about the end of September until the beginning of May, we train both in Het Diekman (25-meter pool in Enschede) and the Spiegelbad (16-meter pool in the sports centre of the university). During the outdoor season, which takes place the rest of the year, we play at BuBa (25-meter outdoor pool on the campus of the university).

The competition team practices are given by our professional trainer. This trainer educates our student trainers who lead the practices for the tournament team. This ensures that our practices remain at a high level and are challenging for players of all levels.
